Finally!
This week is finals week. I've got my Bio 101 final tomorrow. My Astronomy and Islamic Civ finals are both on Thursday, and my Stats final is on Friday. My stats final used to be on Thursday, too, so I'm happy that I've gotten it moved.
I ought to be studying right now, but I feel intensely unmotivated. There are some things that are making me re-examine the path I'm headed in school. Econ and Accounting is a great degree for business – but is "business" something I'll even enjoy? I'm not sure.
I had to talk with Neda yesterday, my contact with the NYT. The business we're engaged in is going to require me to have papers stocked in five locations by 8:00 a.m. every morning this summer. What's more, she hadn't told me, but we're going to have to do this during the school year, too. She's got a proposal with WWU in which the NYT would sell directly to the University, and then NSCS would be the NYT's delivery boy. It's up to me to rally volunteers to the cause, or else I'll be stuck hauling papers around myself. Neda was trying to levy personal financial incentives, which was an insult to my morality. I'm not going to take money for the volunteer work I do as an officer of an honor society.
No matter what industry I might get into, I don't doubt that it's going to be filled with people like Neda. More and more, I'm contemplating a move into Computer Science. There's not as great of a chance of earning riches in CompSci, but I might be happier there. I love working with computers. Unless I get a job for a spyware company, I wouldn't be employing underhanded tactics to get my job done.
Regardless of whether I switch my major, I'm not looking forward to being Neda's newspaper bitch. I'd cut loose now if I weren't committed to NSCS. We just can't be the chapter we want to be without the money provided by the NYT.
